Lakeland in Top Three TN Cities for Young Families!
Lakeland, named #3, was one of only four communities to receive a perfect 10 from GreatSchools. Lakeland School System Named Exemplary District by the
Tennessee Department of Education

Lakeland Elementary Named a National Blue Ribbon School, in 2018!
The US Department of Education announced, on 10/1/18, that Lakeland Elementary School has received the distinction of being named a National Blue Ribbon School!
In a press release, Superintendent Dr. Ted Horrell stated, “This award is essentially the highest honor a school can receive in the United States…”.
Once nominated, the school goes through a series of comprehensive evaluations to determine if they qualify for the award. Congratulations to LES for this prestigious honor! Full story.

LSS rated number one in the state for grades 3-5, English/Language Arts and Math!

The Tennessee Department of Education has named Lakeland Elementary School a Reward School for the 2018 school year - the top distinction that a school can earn, in Tennessee!
Lakeland School System Named Exemplary District for 2017
Distinction Recognizes Combination of Achievement and Growth
The Tennessee Department of Education has named Lakeland School System an Exemplary School District for the second time in as many years of eligibility. Exemplary districts meet state-set requirements for student achievement, and student growth in total student population as well as individual sub-groups of students.
“We are particularly proud that this status recognizes the work of our teachers in growing students from all backgrounds. Our goal remains to be sure all of our students reach their maximum potential,” said LSS superintendent Dr. Ted Horrell.
Lakeland School System #1 for Second Year in TCAP Achievement: 10/17 announcement!
Lakeland Elementary School was named as a Reward School, placing it in the top 5% of schools in the state for academic achievement.
Superintendent Dr. Ted Horrell said, “These honors are a direct reflection of the hard work and high academic standards of our teachers, staff members, administrators, and school board as well as the commitment of our students and parents to meet those high standards. I could not be more proud of our district.”

Lakeland Elementary Receives AdvancedED Accreditation (March 2017)
The external review is a diagnostic process to stimulate and guide continuous improvement with focus on Impact of teaching and learning, capacity of leadership and use of resources. The external review team observed the teachers in the classroom and spoke with stakeholders throughout the review process.
The report said LES has a strong leadership team and that they are teaching students how to be leaders. LES overall score was 323.08 compared to the AdvancedED average 278.94. The accreditation is valid for 5 years.

Lakeland Ranks Among Top 10 Most Affordable Places to Live in Tennessee, according to a SmartAsset ranking.
A new study from financial technology company SmartAsset ranks the most affordable places to live in Tennessee. This is SmartAsset’s third annual study on the Most Affordable Places in America. These cities are ranked on an Affordability Index weighing property taxes, homeowners’ insurance fees, and mortgage payments relative to income.

Lakeland Designated a Tree City USA Award Recipient
...Lakeland has received the Tree City USA Award 11+ times!
The Tree City Award recognizes cities that have made it a priority to plant, preserve, and protect their precious tree resources as well as engage the community in environmental stewardship.
Keep Lakeland Beautiful Recognized for standards of excellence by Keep America Beautiful!
KLB received the President's Circle Recognition Award for 2016 for good standing as a Keep America Beautiful Affiliate and completing all annual reporting requirements.
Congrats to City Engineer Emily Harrell!
In May 2017, Emily was named Outstanding Government Engineer by the West Tennessee Branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
In recognizing Mrs. Harrell, the award committee noted: “She has done a great job of providing engineering services to Lakeland’s residents while ensuring that they coordinate with other jurisdictions for better results and cost savings."

, expressed that he was pleased that Lakeland has been receiving a number of recognitions lately.
