Lakeland's government is in the
form of commission-manager,
where elected officials make
policy decisions and the city
manager's staff implements them.
A mayor and four commissioners
are elected at large for
four-year terms. The
Board of
Commissioners (see box at
right) appoints the city
manager, who is the chief
administrative officer and
oversees the daily operations of
the city's departments and
employees.

Mitigation
The joint Hazard Mitigation Plan was built through the efforts of the staffs of the
City of Lakeland and the Town of Arlington.
Funded by a Federal Emergency Management
Agency grant, the 49-page document
reviews possible hazards facing
our joint area, impact of the
hazards, previous hazards and unique risks.
