Economic Development Commission
The City of Lakeland’s Economic Development Commission (EDC) is a group of citizens, appointed by Lakeland’s BOC, whose purpose is to promote a sound, diversified economic base that is consistent with Lakeland’s character. The EDC articulates a vision of economic development with clearly-defined goals and objectives for the City.
The EDC fosters business expansion, including new businesses looking to locate in Lakeland, which will increase employment opportunities and broaden the tax base. To that end, the EDC makes recommendations to the BOC regarding policies, regulations, marketing, and development strategies in order to retain and enhance the economic base of the City.
The Economic Development Commission makes recommendations for economic development pursuant to the City’s adopted strategic plan (PDF) and marketing plan (PDF) including appropriate development incentives to ensure projects that come to the city are economically viable.
